Last Updated: September 5, 2022 Hi Ladies and Gents, The title makes it sound so simple, right? And, actually, it isn't as hard as us humans often make it out to be; yet this is often the key stumbling point that so many of us fall into when trying to do something new. And, no, just for the record to make sure this is clear: the title of this post does not imply the same thing as "Fake it 'til you make it"! For our purposes here today, there isn't - and never was - any "faking it," only starting from zero, or close there to, and growing from there - there's nothing "fake" about that. There's nothing "fake" about genuine growth! I was surfing the Internet the other day (I think I am the only person I know who still calls it that - or does it like people use to do in the old days, for that matter!) when I stumbled onto this post from a number of years ago discussing why turnkey affiliate websites are a waste of money. Please note: I don't necessarily think that all turnkey affiliate websites are a waste of money - let's be clear on that - and this post isn't even about turnkey affiliate websites; but I did read the post and there was a comment down in the comments section that caught my eye : "There are many paths to being successful as an affiliate but besides never backing down and never giving in, the truth is there’s only so much you can purchase from others – coaching, books, programs, articles – before you have to do the damn work. You can either hire someone to do the work for you – and pay a crap load of money to have it done right – or you can roll up your sleeves and do it yourself." -Posted by Lauryn Doll in the comments section. Although the post itself is a number of years old, the message it conveys is evergreen and timeless and not even necessarily specific to affiliate marketing - it can apply to anything in life. It really caught my eye because I can relate to is so well in my own life. You see, you can pick your prefect money-making venture. You can do your homework and read up on it on Andreas Philip Gross Enterprises, other websites, and even in offline hardcopy material. You can map out your financial success on paper. You can do all of these things, but until you jump in and start working your idea with your own mind and muscles, there will be no reward. No pain, no gain - cliched, but oh so true! Unless you are an extremely lucky and rare individual, no one is just going to "make you rich". You have to do it! You have to make it happen for yourself. And it takes work. You had better bet your bamboozle it takes work!!! Being rich is largely a choice - a mindset; although I will be the first to stand up and say not entirely - there are definitely other factors involved as well which we won't discuss here today. You have to live that lifestyle and make those choices in order to make your dreams become reality! But where do you start? What if you don't "have it," as they say, to begin with? You often hear the age-old adage "Fake it 'til you make it," but that doesn't really sit well with me. You see, I hate the idea of "faking" something, especially when it is something that you genuinely want to be genuine and real in the end! If your intended outcome is something real, why start with something fake? Now, of course, the saying "Fake it 'til you make it" is more or less a cute way of saying "Learn as you go along" - but let's get that word "fake" out of there! Let's be semantically correct and just say it like it should be said: "Learn as you go and grow"! I suppose people might like the expression "Fake it 'til you make it" because it implies that you really don't know what you are doing when you start out - you are just "faking it." To a certain extent, of course this is true, and of course you are probably doing some "faking it," but let's change the wording here and change our mindset. Rather than doing something "fake," you are simply doing something that you have no or little experience with and "learning how to do it." As with all learning, learning how to run and grow your business - or whatever successful-idea-in-the-making it is you are running with - is no different. You start small and put one foot in front of the other as you walk along the journey of making it happen. There are no shortcuts along the path of success. Progress is probably slow at first, and this is the phase wherein it is most easy to be detracted by those pesky infamous "haters". You know, the people who tell you that your idea will never catch air, will never amount to anything substantial - yeah, those people. They show their ugly faces in full-force in the beginning stages. As you continue to run forward with your idea, the journey gets easier. Things get easier for a combination of reasons. For starters, you have learned and grown from the person you were when you started. You are more resilient, have a better idea of what you can and cannot do now, and also probably have a better idea of what you want and what growth should look like to you, in the form you want it to happen in. Additionally, you have gotten much of the heavy lifting out of the way once you have gotten over the hill of all the initial "start up inertia," as I like to call it. That first call you make, or email you send, or speech you give, or ground you break - or whatever that first action you take is - will almost always seem weird, scary, and unnatural to a certain extent if you are breaking into territory you are truly unfamiliar/only somewhat familiar with. But after taking that first action you will also learn something. You will learn something immediately from that very first action that you can use to help you plan/get a gauge for your next action. No, you haven't become degreeless just because you conquered your first action - far from it, in fact. That first action will show you both what you already know and can do, as well as what the limitations of your current abilities and powers are! But both of these things are valuable information, because you can use this information to drive growth and get better at what you do. You're not faking it! You are simply growing!
